Details about the car are below. We have priced the car at $500. The Blue Book private party price is $695 and Edmunds private party price is $577. We’ve had 5 responses – one person stood us up. We have responded to 3 people and have had no communication after that. I’m waiting for an email from one person who found our ad on Craigslist. Is our price too high for a car in this condition?

New parts:
*New tires & front end alignment (November 2008 – only 1500 miles on the new tires!)
*New radiator (Summer 2008)
*New serpentine belt (Summer 2008)
*New brakes (March 2009)
*New top motor mount (March 2009)

Good things about this car:
*Low insurance cost (we’re in our early 20s and we pay $40/month)
*Easy to drive – great first car!
*Very roomy
*Cool seat covers – appropriate for guys or girls
*Low mileage for a car this age (approximately 7500 miles per year)
*Good gas mileage (26 hwy, 18 city, 21 combined)
*Large trunk
*Spare tire and jack take up no room in the trunk!
*Has a great CD player and speakers
*Rear window defogger

Bad things:
*Leaks coolant
*Leaks transmission fluid
*AC doesn’t work properly – likely needs freon
*Heater doesn’t work
*Small dents on right side of car and on hood
*Paint scraped off on rear bumper – my aunt accidentally bumped the back with her car
*Right side door creaks as it opens – door works fine, though
*Headliner is hanging slightly – doesn’t affect driving or anything
*Back driver’s side window doesn’t close fully, needs a new clip
On the original ad, we also have pictures of the car. Here are the pictures I have included with the ad:

500.00 is the minimum amount to price a car that runs..

of the bad things listed, only two or three matter..the coolant and trans leak and the ac/heater problems

The tires, brakes, and radiator cost more than you are asking for the car……

Just like with shopping for just about everything else in the UK, finding the best deals on car insurance is as quick and easy as the click of a mouse. The Internet has brought the world to your fingertips, and it’s about time you began to utilize it, especially when it comes to items like car insurance that require comparison shopping in order for you to get the best deal. With this in mind, here are a few tips to keep in mind when shopping for car insurance in the UK.

First things first: One item of consideration that’s more important than price is service. If you don’t believe me, think about this: what good would the best policy with the best price be if your claim took months to process? What if your dozens of phone calls in which you left messages go unreturned? A delay in any shape or form is an inconvenience for you, and any inconvenience that you have to deal with will eventually cost you money. This item brings us to the next one on our list: price.

Since price is second on our list, be aware of hidden costs and fees that can be attached to some policies. If one policy seems so expensive that there must be something wrong, you’re probably right. Don’t be afraid to ask any potential insurer for an offer for insurance in writing so that you can easily compare and contrast all of your options.

Be sure to inform your potential insurer of all motor vehicles that you currently own and operate to make sure that your prices will remain as low as the initial quote. If your auto has extra options like anti-lock brakes or an anti-theft device, be sure to mention it. If your auto has letters after the name, like a Corolla LE, be sure to mention the letters, for they will have an impact on the final cost.

Finally, always buy your auto insurance from a company that you can trust, one that you’ve heard of and have heard good things about. One or two disgruntled customers can make their opinion known to the world much quicker than 100 happy ones, so you’ll need to do a bit of research if you have any doubts.

Of course, with so many potential insurers out there begging for your business, there are scores of Internet sites that will do the comparison and price shopping for you. These sites offer their services for free, as the insurer pays them on commission when you choose their policy. They will relay all pertinent information to you and you pick the policy that suits your needs the most, all without doing anything more than clicking a mouse.

The best advice my insurance agent ever gave to me was; insure against the uninsured!

I am now a HUGE advocate of that advice & have been ever since Nov. 2004 when a hit & run driver, hit me while I was 123058-S1-0034.jpg

riding my motorcycle. The only time this driver slowed down was when he or she applied the brakes to see to it that the bike & I rolled off the hood of their car. I was left to crawl across 6 lanes of traffic, on a Sat. night, in Memphis, Tn.

My injuries led to a week long hospital stay at the best trauma unit around the mid south, I had surgeries for my leg, arms, feet. It was followed up by intense physical therapy. Not to mention my bike was totalled. At the time of the accident, I had been a licensed rider for 24 years. The night was crystal clear & the weather was beautiful. It was an accident but it was one I was insured for. The medical bills for his was astounding & would have wiped out everything I had saved.

I was off work for months. No paycheck coming in at all. I have two schoolage children at home & I was widowed in 94. I hated to write that check ever month to the insurance company because I am such a good, experienced rider; nothing can happen to me, RIGHT? except that it did.

Prepare for the worst but hope for the best. Insure yourself for it!
