i’m planning to buy a car next year.
it will cost around 11000 and i’m planning to downpay 5000.
so 6000 left.
and my dad wants to pay that 6000 with his credit card so he can put the car under liability instead of full coverage.
our family has 2 cars each under my parents’ names.
so what is the best way to lower the insurance for me
i’m 21 yrs old guy no accidents or tickets.
our insurance company said it would be about 1600/yr for me..
is that average?
is there a way to lower the insurance?
best way is to raise the deductibles.. then talk about lowering certain coverages or shopping insurance companies.
I filled out a couple quotes from esurance.com and allstate and i got like $2100 & $4100 premium 6 month payment. Does that mean its going to cost me that much for insurance for only 6 months? If so, that is insane. That would be $350-$750 dollars a month. That cannot be real. My dad gave me a quote from Allstate(thats what he has) and it was about $117.00/Mth for a Chevy Blazer for 18 Year Old First Driver. I am very new to the whole insurance thing so can someone just point me in a small direction to the lowest priced insurance with good plans. I would absolutely love to have an older car(oldsmobile, or between 60s&80s)But thats way to pricy, along with a nice sports vehicle. Because of the gas mileage and decent look, i would like a Chevy Convert Tracker. Just give me some advice if you know what im talking about. ![]()
Thanks Much

Excuse me for the mistake above. My fathers quote was from State farm(thats what he has).
Your father should put you on his insurance, and you pay him,you will both win with this situation if multiple vehicles are on the same contract…. that’s why the rate he gave you was so much cheaper. if your making payments on the vehicle, your creditor is probably requesting you get full coverge, which is why it’s so expensive for someone your age, if you own the vehicle out right, just get the minimum state requirements( Ca. is PL/PD )..you can also try progressive insurance, takes almost no time for a quote and they are open nearly 24/7…good luck.
My dad has a car that is 4 years old, it is a subaru outback, with 200,000+miles on it (not a typo, he drives it all over the eastern coast). Now would the subarus insurance cost(total) be lower than if i bought my own used car?
It is not true. The insurance companies use a number of formulas to calculate cost and it is not unlikely that an older "risky" model would have a higher insurance cost than a newer "safer" model. You will also quickly find that they do not like to share this information. Years ago, insurance symbols were included in the NADA books. They quit listing it after the insurance companies stopped sharing this information.
The best way to check is to just call your Agent and ask about the different cars you are considering. You might also find the info below of interest.

I have been thinking of "loaning" my car (which I own) to my 87 year old father. I would then lease a vehicle for myself. Then at the end of the lease period (let’s say 3 years) if he is no longer driving, the car returns to me. Can he purchase auto insurance on himself and the car or does it fall upon me and my policy? My father has an excellent driving record and so do I.
Call your insurance company to see if you can add him to your policy or if he would be covered under yours. Each state is different so ask them. And GO DAD!! 87 and an excellent driving record, those 2 things don’t usually go together.
10pts to best answer. Question about auto insurance policies?
I just earned my drivers liscence. My father is dreading the cost of adding another driver to the family auto insurance policy. What are some discounts that many insurance companies offer that might help save my dad some money when the premium is due?
Depends on the company and the state that you live in. Auto insurance is regulated by each state so it can differ from state to state. Try this site to find the best auto insurance

Some companies might offer:
-Good student discount (if you have a B or better average, so 3.0 or higher)
-Driver Training discount (if you got your drivers license through an ‘on the road’ driver training course and got a certificate stating you completed the course
-Some companies offer a book to be completed to make you designate driving goals to make you aware of your driving skills.
If there are 3 cars in the house and 3 drivers in the house, you will probably have to be put as a primary operator of a car, BUT if threre are 2 cars in the house and 3 drivers in the house you could probably be rated as an occational operator of the vehicle.
Should be taking my driving test very soon.
Ive looked at cars i would like to have. But obviously the insurance is much to high.
Any body got any good ideas which would be a good car for me?
can pay up to £2000 for the car. because I’m not paying for it. all i have to fund is the insurance.
So any low insurance cars around?
I’m 17 and drive a Land Rover Defender, my insurance is £320 a year because my dad is the policy holder and i’m an additional driver, my insurance for me without my dad as policy holder would be about £4000. £320 is good considering it’s a £30 000 2.5 litre monster. Try getting your parents to do that for you.
As for cars, something small like a Clio or 207, go for a diesel because the running costs are cheaper and they are usually cheaper to insure as well.
