Getting better rates on your auto insurance is something that many people would like to do. So many are paying a lot of money, too much money – and doing it unnecessarily. By following a few simple steps, you could reduce your annual auto insurance costs, and save some money for those other projects you would like to do. Here are five steps that will enable you to reduce your costs.

1. Compare Car Insurance Quotes

This is one of the easiest things to do, because you can do it at any time of day, just by going online. You will want to find an insurance Web site that will allow you to get several quotes from different companies with just one application. When you do this, go to at least two different Web sites and get several quotes from both.

Before you get that new car insurance policy, however, you may want to do a little research to discover some things about the company if you are not familiar with that name. You might check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are many complaints about them not paying for accidents, etc.

2. Read About Car Insurance

In order to really understand what you may be able to do without, in the way of options, you should have a good understanding of what the options cover. Greater savings will come from a greater understanding of what your needs really are. For instance, if you have a brand new car, you may not need the towing option for at least a year or two. You may also be able to do without car rental, too.

3. Increase Your Deductible

This is one thing that can give you a noticeable reduction. By increasing the amount of money that you pay in each accident, you put the insurance company at less of a risk. They like this, and will lower your rates to reflect the amount that you increase your part. Be sure, though, that if you have an accident tomorrow that you can afford to pay the deductible. You will be required to pay it before the auto insurance company will pay their part.

4. Get Less Coverage

Instead of buying the most coverage you can, it is a good idea to get the recommended amount. Also, if your car is more than 10 years old, you should probably drop the comprehensive part of your auto insurance. After 10 years, you may be paying more for your comprehensive than the car is worth. Save this money instead, and apply it to getting another, newer car.

5. Add Security Features To Your Car

If you live in a more urban area, or in an area where there is car theft, you can lower your car insurance rates by adding some security features to your car. These usually result in a discount with each new feature you have. This includes steering wheel locks, auto alarms, and satellite tracking systems.

Besides these things, you may want to talk to your car insurance agent to see if driving classes will also lower your rates. Having multiple cars insured by the same company, and staying away from cars that are the most likely to be stolen, or sporty, will reduce your rates, too.

California residents are known to pay some of the biggest rates when it comes to auto insurance in United States. Henceforth, all those who reside in Los Angeles are no exception. We all have a goal to keep the insurance rates as low as possible and thus you would have to access the level of coverage, just to make sure that you do not end up being over-insured. The next step after this important assessment would be to compare auto insurance rates from different companies in Los Angeles in order to pick the best rates for you.

Los Angeles is believed to have one of the highest accident ratios in United States and ironically also has the biggest percentage of uninsured drivers. Therefore, it would be mandatory to acquire auto insurance in Los Angeles.

Every state sets a minimum level of auto insurance coverage for all the drivers and thence it becomes extremely important to study the state laws before getting yourself insured. A lot of companies provide you with more auto coverage then you actually need. So it is essential to know your state laws and requirements before applying for quotes from various auto insurance companies in Los Angeles.

People buy all kinds of insurance with the intention of protecting their assets and in cases if you do not own a lot then getting the minimum level of coverage required by the law would be sufficient. On the other hand, if you own a home or land or any other property then it would be highly proactive to take necessary steps to protect these assets from any legal action in you are involved in an accident at any given time.

There are a few ways which can help you keep your Los Angeles auto insurance down. One of them is if you own an older vehicle that has been reduced in value; you could easily cancel your collision insurance. What happens in this case is that such coverage pays only for the damage of your vehicles, regardless of whose fault it was. Here, if your car is fully paid for then you may perhaps be better off by buying a new vehicle all together if your car is severely damaged.

If you happen to be in a situation where you are paying loan payments on your car, a lot of these lenders in the Los Angeles auto insurance market would want to ensure that your collision insurance is bought so that they get paid too if there is any loss.

However, once your vehicle is paid in full and you continue to pay the same amount of premium for auto insurance with less coverage, the insurance company will pay for the repairs after the accident up to the value of your vehicle at the time of the accident. This amount will be higher then what you originally bought the vehicle for.

To conclude with, there are loads of strategies that can help you acquire cheaper rates in a Los Angeles auto insurance market. All you need to know is your state laws and research the quotes accordingly.

Auto gap insurance is a must-have if you’re leasing a car or if you’re “upside-down” in your car, meaning you owe more than it’s worth. Read on to learn what gap insurance is and how you can find a low-cost policy.

What is Gap Insurance?

Everyone knows that if you buy a new car, its value plummets as soon as you drive it off the lot. Suddenly, the car you financed for $25,000 may be worth only $20,000.

So imagine that this same car is totaled within the first year or two of owning it. “That’s OK,” you think. “I have collision coverage, which will pay me enough to pay off my car loan and get a new car.”

But then you find out the insurance company sets the value of your car at considerably less than what you still owe on the car. Now you are not only without a car, but you still have to finish paying off the finance company.

This is where gap insurance comes in to save you. A gap policy covers the difference between the value of your car and what you owe the finance company. Gap policies are often required when you lease a car and are a good idea for the first couple of years after you buy a new car.

Where Can I Get a Gap Policy?

You can probably purchase a gap policy through your auto dealership or leasing company. However, this is the most expensive option for what is usually a pretty inexpensive policy.

A better option is to check with your current insurance company to see if they can add gap insurance to your existing policy, or go to an insurance comparison website where you can get quotes from a number of different companies, compare them, then choose the cheapest rate (see link below).

Shopping for auto insurance? Looking for the best auto insurance companies with the best rates? Here’s how to find them.

Finding the Best Auto Insurance Companies

Finding an auto insurance company that will be there when you need them and will pay your claims on time is an important consideration when it comes to buying auto insurance.

A company’s financial strength is a good indicator of their ability to pay claims, and there are two websites where you can go to check out their financial status:

Standard and Poors (standardandpoors.com) – This website provides profiles and financial strength ratings of more than 4,000 companies.

A. M. Best (ambest.com/ratings) – This website provides financial ratings and reports on the overall condition of insurance companies.

These websites are great if you want to know how solvent a company is and how credit worthy they are, but if you want the inside scoop on how well they pay their claims and how good their customer service is, I recommend going to the following websites:

Epinions (epinions.com)- This website provides ratings and reviews of various companies by their customers. Reviews range from, “Great agents all over the country.” to “Buyer beware! Company is a fraud candidate for misrepresentation of their clients.” If you want to find out how customers have been treated and what their claims experience has been, this is the place to go.

Your state’s department of insurance website – Most state insurance departments maintain websites that have a consumer complaint department where you can find out how many claims have been filed against a particular company. If your state doesn’t provide this information, you can go to California’s website – www.insurance.ca.gov – to get it. Just click on “Consumers,” then “Studies and Reports,” then “Consumer Complaint Study” to see the complaints filed against a particular company.

My 18-year-old son’s car insurance is going through the roof. It just jumped from $270 to $321/ month. He’s a college student living in Tampa, FL (40 miles from home address in Largo, fL), makes good grades, took driver’s ed in high school, has been driving 2 years and never had a ticket. It’s a new car (Mazda 3) that’s titled to my husband, but all 3 of us are on the policy. My husband and I are on a separate policy for our cars. Anyone have any suggestions on how to bring this number down?

My husband had 2 back-to-back accidents last year that were found to be the other driver’s fault and was paid 100% by the other driver’s insurance (including our deductible). Also, we had a claim on my son’s old car when someone hit it while it was legally parked on the street, and then ran. I had a quote of $261 from Traveler’s until they questioned these claims, then they bumped it to $331/ month. I guess they count against us, even though they weren’t our fault?

the best bet is to ask your insurance company – different companies offer differnt reductions. some offer discount for students based on grades or gpa , and others may dicsount if he takes a defensive driving course again. those should offer some smaller discounts.

however since his rate is so high – i would recomend shopping around for new insurance and getting free qotes. but be sure to tell them your full driving history when they quote you as the rate will change once they look up your driving record and see anything you didnt mention.

i have a insurance for my car and i want to know if i can pay less for the same coverage (basic or minimum)

The best way to find car insurance is by checking with an independent insurance agent. They compare prices with several (sometimes many) different companies to find you the cheapest rate. And different independent agents offer different companies, so even if you check with several agencies in the same town, you could get very different results, so it pays to shop around. You can tell them what deductible you want (the higher the deductible, the lower your monthly payments will be), and they can compare the cost of several different deductibles for you as well. The deductible is the amount you pay out of your pocket if your car is damaged and has to be fixed. If you have a $500 deductible and your car gets hit and it will take, say, $2,000 to fix your car, you pay the first $500 and the insurance company will pay the $1,500 left. The word "premium" means the cost of the insurance. And the premium is based on many things, including the driver’s age, credit history, driving record, age and type of car. Like I said, it pays to shop around, and an independent agent does a lot of it for you. It beats going to any agent that only represents one company, like Allstate or State Farm, for instance. Also, the minimum insurance required by law does not pay to have YOUR car fixed in a wreck, it pays for the OTHER guy’s car to be fixed. To get your car fixed, you have to have "comp" and "collision" coverage also, and that’s when you pay a deductible. It’s good to also have Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist protection, in case someone hits you who doesn’t have insurance at all, or doesn’t have enough to fix your car, because then YOUR insurance will pay for it.

If you are looking for the best auto insurance company in NJ, you are not alone.  Hundreds if not thousands of people in New Jersey feel they are not getting the best rate possible on their car insurance.  With a simple online search or two, you can begin to locate several different companies which offer competitive monthly rates.  If you are a resident looking at renewing your policy or hoping to find an entirely new insurance company to work with, your very first step should be to find a comprehensive list of NJ auto insurance agencies.  With several quotes in front of you, you should be better able to make an informed decision about which can serve you best at the lowest price.

Every car owner has specific needs for their vehicle and family coverage.  Each auto insurance company in NJ offers varying packages that respond to the differing needs of customers.  What you need to find is the company that can offer the best coverage for you personally at the lowest cost possible.  The only way to determine this is to research and compare several companies side by side.

Other than comparing prices and coverage options, it can be a smart idea to either talk to friends and family members that have worked with the companies you are considering or look up reviews online.  Learning from other people’s experiences and determining if a company comes through on its promises is critical in helping to ensure you choose a trustworthy auto insurance company in NJ.  There are many packages offered by varying NJ car insurance agencies which cover things like medical bills for the injured and property damage on either your car or the other person’s car that was involved in the accident.  While many people favor the least expensive options possible, consider the fact that if you get into an accident, your coverage will pay hardly anything and you will be stuck footing most of the bills on your own.  If you acquire comprehensive coverage, however, you can rest at ease if you get in an accident that you will be taken care of.

Car insurance is an absolute must.  You should not even think twice about whether to get coverage or not.  As a resident of NJ looking for the best car insurance coverage or a new company policy altogether, look into what you can find online about the best auto insurance company in NJ.
